Country data

Country names, capitals, regions, borders and areas come from the mledoze/countries dataset, which is published under the Open Database License, version 1.0.

Contains information from mledoze/countries, which is made available here under the Open Database License (ODbL).

The ODbL asks that anyone using a derived database be offered a copy in machine-readable form. The version MundiQuiz ships is here: countries.json. It is the dataset after our own processing — trimmed to the fields the game uses, and extended with the flag comparisons and notoriety rankings described below.

Flags

The flag artwork comes from the same repository, but it is not covered by the ODbL. Its authors exclude it explicitly and point to Wikipedia's guidance on copyright on emblems, which is where questions about a particular flag should go.

Notoriety

How well known a country is — which is half of how MundiQuiz decides a question's difficulty — is derived from English Wikipedia pageview counts. No Wikipedia text is used in the game.

Typefaces

Both typefaces are licensed under the SIL Open Font License, version 1.1, and are served from this domain rather than from a font CDN.

What is ours

The game, its artwork, its logo and this site are the work of Benja Kugler. The flag similarity scores and the difficulty model are computed by us from the sources above.
